Bosch SHU42L05UC won't fill

Hi,
     I have a Bosch SHU42L05UC dishwasher that won't fill. My garbage disposal backed up, and since then the dishwasher doesn't work. I'm not sure if the two are related though. It drains fine if I put a bucket of water inside. I checked the inlet valve and float switch for continuity, and both seem to be OK. The pressure chamber doesn't look like it's clogged. I can't figure out what else the problem could be. I'm thinking of replacing the inlet valve in case it has failed mechanically. Is there something else I should consider?

Hi,

I would check to see if there is voltage to the water valve before I decided to replace it or not.
If there is voltage to the water inlet valve, but it don't let water in then I would replace the valve, part # 425458.

Hi AJ,
     When I start the dishwasher I get no voltage across the two posts, and 120 between each post and ground. Does that sound like it needs to be replaced?

When the dishwasher is started the first component to energize is the drain pump.
After the drain pump times out there will be a pause,then the water valve will energize.

Hi,
     I just wanted to follow up. I realized after reading jumptrout51's post that I didn't hear the drain pump run when I tested the inlet valve. i put some water in the washer to double check the drain pump, and it emptied fine when I forced the machine to drain. I started another run to test the inlet valve, and it just worked. So I don't know what happened. Maybe the drain pump needed to be primed, and once that was running the inlet valve was signalled to open? Anyways, thanks for the help. It saved me an expensive repair bill.

I am glad it worked this time.
You may not be out of the woods yet.
There may be a blockage or clog of some sort in the drain pump or drain hose.
When this dishwasher was first installed and the cycle started,there would be NO water in the dishwasher.
The pump out would time out and the water valve would energize to take on water.
If your drain pump did not work that could have been a stuck impeller,faulty wiring or loose board connection.
With any luck,it is one of the minor issues and has corrected itself for now.
