LG WM2277HW LE Error
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:17:42 PM »
Having trouble with my LG WM2277HW washer.
I thought I fixed it with a new Hall Effect sensor, but the problem returned on an intermittent basis almost immediately. Now it is completely dead; drum does not turn when running the diagnostic.
Hall sensor seems OK as the diagnostic shows RPM when the rotor is turned by hand.
Stator reads 7.7 - 7.8 ohms between any two terminals, and is visually OK.
Rotor is visually OK.
DMM reads voltage between any two terminals on the motor connector when the diagnostic is running the motor, and 0 volts otherwise.
Haven't ohmed out the wiring harness yet.

What is wrong, or what am I missing ?

Since there seem to be some fairly expert diagnosers of this model on this board I thought  I would submit the problem to you.

Replace the Wire Harness

The next possibility would be the Main Board (though not likely)

Use the *correct* type & amount of detergent

HE : (2) Tablespoons

HE 2X : (1) Tablespoon

HE 3X : (1) Teaspoon

I have a similar issue , but I have a new stator, wire harness, and a new main bird. Ran machine for 2 hrs after mainboard install and was fine. No the dreaded le code is back. Any suggestions?

Back again ....
Replaced the motor wiring harness with good results, motor turning once again.
Worked fine as we cleared the backlog of laundry over last week or 10 days.
Last night, LE error, and again this morning, but now it's working again.

Anyone have any thoughts on diagnosing an intermittent failure like this ?

Manually rotate the Basket to be sure it's not dragging (look at front end of basket while turning to be sure it's even 360 degrees at the space between basket and rubber boot).
You can try running an empty wash load using 2 cups of Distilled White Vinegar (pour directly into basket) that will get rid of the Suds (only use HE Liquid Detergent).
The most common cause of the LE code is a bad Hall Sensor.
The worst thing is a bad Control Board, it's mounted at the back top of the washer (under the top panel).
I believe LG offers a 10-Year Warranty on the Stator/Rotor and Basket/Tub.

Thanks to John63, I was able to get my 2277 back up and running with a new hall sensor and wiring harness...for a while.  After working for a couple of weeks, the LE code re-surfaced.  Unplugged the machine, plugged it back in, and nothing.  Tub spins freely by hand.  Diagnostic mode gives readings of 0 for first three stops (tub rpm, low spin, high spin).  Let the machine sit for a couple of days, and diagnostics worked perfectly.  Ran 5 loads just fine...and then the error again on the last one.  Still dead this am.  Main board?  Going to test all the connections now.

**********

Usually a failed Main Board (when "0" is displayed)

Need the SERIAL NUMBER to identify the correct Main Board part number (more than one exists for the WM2277 model)

408KW05674.  Tested resistance to motor thru new wire harness and got 8.5 ohms regardless of which contact.  Tested power from motor and got readings all over the board from 0 to infinity.  I took the cover off of the main board and this number was on a sticker:6871EC1087C.  Why would it work sometimes and not others?
Put it all back together again, ran diagnostics, and it worked...for now.  Thanks for your response John63!

John63 - did my serial number and part number match up?  I am going to order a board even though it works intermittently.  Thanks in advance!

Just thought I'd finish the story that started back in August.
The wiring harness proved to be as intermittent a fix as the sensor.  Shaking the harnesses as they entered the main board would revive the machine for another load or two, but no more.   Finally even that makeshift quit working and I had to take the $170 leap of faith by ordering a new main board.

I replaced the 6871EC1087C board with the 6871ER1003C board, and that finally fixed it !
It is still working today, about 6 weeks later.

Thanks to everyone, and I hope this thread will be a useful reference for others with this problem.

Thank you. I admit, the le error like any dd motor error is very tricky to track down.

Intermittent failures are always the worst to diagnose as well.
Hard to tell if you actually fixed it.   Patience and systematic elimination of possibilities
are the only way to make progress against this kind of thing.
