I don't know if anyone makes a mercury stat anymore because so many states have banned them. By this year the ban may be federal. The "replacement" manual stat is usually a snap action switch, which is not as good as the old reliable mercury switch. Even those are few and far between because mostly they are making digital. But a plain, non-programmable digital is a pretty good unit, because they are simple, and the sensor is a thermistor, which gives a consistent and tightly regulated switchover point.
