Whirlpool -- WTW4800XQ Spins intermittantly

 My washer will fill, agitate and drain. But when it begins spin it stops, it does start spinning but only spins for a few seconds. I have read several forums regarding this but they all seem to be just a bit different than my problem.
We moved the washer to get a better look at it. It seems to work intermittently. We had it spinning at full speed. We took the lid lock apart to make the washer think that the lid was closed so we could watch it. It worked a couple times and now it wont spin again. You can hear the lid lock and start the cycle and it starts to hum and then the lock button flashes and it stops the cycle. HELP

Tech sheet/manual is located at front under top. Follow instructions . Put unit into diagnostic mode. Check fault codes. Most likely problem would be lid/lock switch or mode shifter.
