Kenmore 110.28622700 Top Load - no spin. Details inside.
tgoods:
Thanks for the update.
The neutral drain kit usually will not fix a no spin problem, it will fix a no neutral problem. The plastic spin gear could be stripped, 285362. In rare cases, I have seen the pivot pin on the main gear break. I've had no luck drilling the pin out and the main gear is not available. If you can get the pin out, a new pin is supplied with the neutral drain kit.
andersenappliance:
The neutral drain kit contains most of the light weight guts of the tranny. If any of the heavy duty cast parts are broken, then its a waste of time. The other part is the cam 285206, sometimes they start sticking. If th cam sticks, then the gear on the shaft that is engaged to the clutch won't ride up high enough to slip free of the shaft teeth, and then the machine won't spin. This gear is driven by a big plastic gear that comes with the neutral drain kit, and if it is stripped (pretty noisy til its done) it won't drive that gear either.
You won't need all these, but here's a parts list:

That has nothing to do with spin. The cam raises/lowers the agitate gear inside the gearcase which disengages/engages it with the splines on the agitator shaft. The clutch pinion gear isn't moved up or down. It is always engaged with the spin gear. In neutral drain, the spin gear does not rotate. The neutral drain kit is available from Point and Click appliance repair for $16 and includes the spin gear and it is a Whirlpool FSP.

The symptoms of a bad cam are spinning and agitating the same time during the spin cycle. I know P & C is showing a spin gear in their picture of the neutral kit but I can assure you that it's not included in the kit.

I recently inquired about that via email with them and they said it was included with the kit. I purchased the kit from them and it was included. I realize the same part number is used elsewhere and the spin gear is not included so you should check with them via email first. Apparently it was included standard at one time. It seems to me that the spin gear should be included as there is a small button on one of the bosses that repeatedly engages with the trip lever on the neutral drain plate that is a wear point. If your going to replace all the parts of the neutral drain, then you should replace the spin gear as well.
