Dodge Caravan Mini Van
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:00:42 AM »
OK, this is the year make the big move from corporate number ,to on my own. Between  setting up corp papers and insurance to bank account and bis account, phone numbers. I have came up with a issue. What is going to be my main service ride ?I will be doing a fair amount of rural work, parts houses about 50 miles away. But I also will be working in two metro areas. I was going to go with a full size van, but with gas rising, and me knowing you cant carry all the parts you need. Gas mileage becomes big. Anyone use a mini van ? Do you like it?

Ford Transit ,good on gas ...lots of room for tools and parts , questionable reliability ...too many repairs ,wouldn't buy another.

Terrible in snow , just out of warranty needed 2 wheel bearings ,hard on brakes...too many cheap plastic dodads that break .Seats compressed ,makes your a$$ sore ,and so on .

My company uses Ford Windstars. Pretty reliable, roomy, and decent on gas.  :D

I use a Chevy Astro.  Big enough tank, better mileage than my Ford Ranger (slightly).  Its a panel van, roomy enough inside, but you don't have to get in it to reach everything.  Its a used one I traded a washer & dryer for, then rebuilt the tranny.

I like it.

Congrats on the move!

I'm thinking of getting a Caravan C/V when i can afford it. But i want an older one from the 90's so i can swap in an intercooled turbo 4 cylinder. :P

I had same decision this summer.  Opted for minivan Dodge Grand Caravan.  I can fit a dishwasher upright for installs when needed.  Have 4 large wire baskets for parts in back that I can slide out easily, a small 5 drawer cabinet, and couple of plastic containers for for misc. stuff.  There is storage in the floor as well for my rarely used tools.  It's worked well but no room for leaving it messy so have to keep up on cleaning and organizing.  Spent $20 bucks and Big Lots for a cheap carpet and cut to fit so not to mess up interior.
