Stumped
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:22:03 AM »
Magic Chef CBT1925GRW Freezes everything. Damper is functioning fine. Cold control will shut down unit except in off. Replaced Cold control, same thing. Parts catalogs show 2 controls 61005789 & 61005790 further break down in substitute history narrows it to the 61005790 (which I replaced it with). FSP has the disclaimer, part may appear different but function the same, well this one was definitely different, it didn't have the fish weight on the end, just a coil which can't be properly secured.
ANY IDEAS?

The picture shows the weight on the end.  Whenever I run it that, I wrap the tube around the original weight.

Thought of that but, the coil on the end of the new one is a tight wrap (like around a pencil) and 1 1/4" long. I am afraid I will break the tubing unwinding and rewinding, don't want to throw 60 bucks down the tubes.

Its a maytag Refrigerator and there are two different parts with 2 different part numbers .You need to no the serial number of refrigerator to use the right one.Thats why you need the series # when you look it up.Series 10 and 13 which correlates to a different thermostat for the serial number you have.Thats Maytag for you.

Thank you, dab. You are correct, oddly enough when you zoom in on the part picture, both have the same part # but different prices.  61005790 is the one called for on this box, it was $20 more than the other control.
Stoveguy, I actually thought of that, but have no way of actually knowing, the switch seemed to function fine. There was a piece of insulation on the line so I slid it back to insulate it from the bulb and possibly any heat from the defrost timer motor. I will follow up tomorrow, I didn't get a chance today.

Pull evaporator panel and look at frost pattern.if pattern is a little low could that could make compressor run longer.Anytime I saw a light on in fresh food section that would cause poor cooling in fresh food section. Not freezing.

Zoom part on picture.I guess you are taking about the picture on web? They could be using same part to take the picture because they look alike.Just putting that out there if we are on the same page.

Well I am no longer stumped, it was a bad cold control. The part that I received was the wrong part in the wrong box. My parts place made it good and the customer is happy, but it cost me.
A valuable lesson learned: when shopping online and the catalog shows more than one part for the same application and there is no way to confirm the proper part my serial number, Talk to a real person.Sometimes that doesn't work. Had a customer with a Maytag stacked laundry center (front load washer) with a hollowing bearing, told them it was not a replaceable bearing, the whole outer tub had to be replaced. she didn't believe me and called the people in the blue vans, they told her it was and gave her a part number. She called me and asked if I would install it, I said I would (I just had to know), all the part manuals I found showed no bearing for that model. Anyway she ordered the part by number given to her, cost $70   shipping, turned out to be an idler pulley for the dryer. Wonder what she ever did with the washer?
I would share the Model # but I tossed it.

Use a commercial MAH21 Neptune model number to get the tub bearings. Front is 22002934, rear is 22003441.  Or use the generic numbers, 6207 for front, 6206 for the rear. And don't forget the tub seal, 12002022.

Thank You, tgood.  Good info to have.  The parts breakdown for the model (which I no longer have) did not show a replacable Bearing. My experience with these has been very little but the ones that I have encountered have had a replacable rear bearing but the front bearing was molded into the tub. I did not waste the time to tear the machine down for exploritory because the part catalog called for the tub to be replaced.
