stacked front load washer dryer service
« on: January 28, 2013, 08:35:38 PM »
A call today made me wonder about charging extra when a dryer is on top of thewasher you need to work on.
I am a one man operation.
What do other one man operators do when you might have to remove the dryer to work on the washer?

I don't work on stacks anymore....I've gotten in the habit of asking if they're stacked before going on calls.

If they specify before the call, 2 men are scheduled and we charge accordingly. If they do not specify and do not have an extra hand around, it may get rescheduled. I do not look for ways to get out of running a call, I look for ways to make it happen. :D

Up to this point, I've just removed the dryer.  But extra charge is a great idea!

I used to do hauling, and I'm kind of a big oaf.  6'6" + 287 lbs.

I swore I'd get out of hauling by the time I hit 45.

I guess I did not swear off lifting things, even though saving my back was the point.

Running a one man show can be a bit tough at times.

Getting the wall mount oven out can be a bit tricky, when its still wired in.  And how can it not be, if you are just now removing it?

I need one of those lifting stands.

'Course, using specialized equipment calls for an extra charge too! O0

I use my oven dolly, put on a wooden platform and slide the dryer onto the platform.  This way, I can roll it away from the washer so I can work on it.  This can be a one man operation and I usually charge an extra $40.00.

Thats the way i do it, the dryer is out of the way, & easy top excess to washer. No reason to push all stack units away, do to alot are front accessible to repair. Remember  your out there to make money, not throw it away.

Ive done this once for an older couple that needed their washer fixed that day. I never do this for "the man" because if they hear about it they'll expect us to do this every time. Hard to do when you have 10 morning calls and 7 afternoon calls and this is the first call of the day...

An oven dolly is the first big purchase i plan to make before i go on my own.  I think i use the $ears one every day.

Wild, do you have closeup of that cross bar you have mounted on the front of the dolly?  Is the plywood secured or just sitting loose?
