Well, I am back, as Arnold says.    This time, I have a long distance problem...daughter is in Denver and I am in San Diego. 
Something busted with lid switch/latch assembly.   I see the parts diagram, etc.   Question is....how to remove the top to fix that.  I see on the forum here a manual for the Maytag L84 series vertical modular machines.   It does not list this model, but looks similar.   Would that procedure ( page 4-6 of the manual) be how to get the top off?
