I just got to say it. Thats a lot of dryer to get the clothes to dry.Man i got a couple years to work and you younger guys and take over.G.E parts thats money and over engineered.What the future holds for us.Thats money to buy and money to fix thats what i see.

I'm interested to find out what is wrong.

I hate the "I dunno...mebbe we should get a new control board" type of diagnosis.

I also wonder if these shops are doing this in part to cut out the independent repair guys.

Seems like doing  that would shoot you in your foot.

I don't have a lot of experience, but sometimes even the proper manual seems worthless.

I don't understand why you need separate motors, tachometers and computer controls on a dryer. It drys clothes... That's it. Why re invent the wheel?

2 motors, 2 idler pulleys and the same shitty front and rear bearing design.

I have not serviced one of these yet, but it sounds like it has the same platform as the GE Harmony...with a separate blower and drum motor. The Harmony (electric) dryers were notorious of kicking off the heating circuit if the control didn't sense a sufficient airflow from the blower motor. I don't remember the details, but I think another technician discovered that triac(s) within the motor caused the motor to slow/stop until the entire unit is cooled enough. When the blower motor stops, the heating circuit is eliminated to prevent fire hazards.

I suppose it's possible that this gas dryer is wired such that if there isn't enough volume from the blower motor, the entire unit is shut off, rather than simply shutting off the heating circuit.

Thanks for the input, it seems to me that all the fingers are pointing at the Motor and these bad boys are not cheap over $250. I hear. What a piece of crap just to dry clothes! What happened to the good-ole-days when these things were simple? I will let you know what I find.

A "plain Jane" wpl dryer such as a roper or estate is in my opinion the best way to go. Easy to work on. Cheap to repair. Last 25 years. Keep it simple.
