GE washer that won't fill all the way in rinse cycle
« on: January 18, 2013, 05:17:32 PM »
Hey everyone,  Got a GE washer, model no: GTWN3000M2WS serial no: VV160512G that won't fill all the way on the rinse cycle.  The main wash cycle will fill fine with small, large & super.  When it gets to the rinse cycle the washer will only fill to about the low level.  I checked the water level pressure tube to see if it is blocked, it's OK and clean.  I thought maybe there is a seperate water level switch for the rinse cycle but no there is only one in the control panel.  The wiring shows only one timer segment to fill on rinse but there is a water level bypass at rinse in the timer.  Do you think I could have a bad timer.  The washer is just over a year old and out of warranty.  This just started to happen where the clothes were comming out soapy and not rinsed good.  Has anyone else had this trouble and how did you repair it.  Thanks for any help, Tom

Once it only fill's half way for the rinse cycle I would pull the hose off the pressure switch to see if it starts filling up some more.
If it does then you know it has to be something with the hose or pressure switch.

Does it only fill about half way for rinse on all the cycles or just one?

AJ, I checked out this washer today.  The main wash cycle fills all the way, then when it gets to the rinse cycle it only fills to about the low level and starts to agitate.  When it stopped filling I pulled off the water level pressure switch hose and it did not fill anymore.  I replaced the water level control anyway and guess what?  It did not correct the problem.  Still only low fill on any rinse cycle.  I copied the washer tech sheet from inside the control panel and it looks like there is a pressure switch bypass in the timer that may be bad.  Have you ever heard of this?  The timer is part no: wh12x10535.  Do you  think I should order one and try it?  Thanks again, Tom

Some of these models may have a knob on the control panel for if you add fabric softer turn that on and maybe it will fill with more water in the rinse cycle. This is true on some whirlpool models.

Is there an options switch that says “Power Rinse” or “Fabric Softener” If not posts what options this washer has.

On some of these washers they don’t fill up on rinse unless you select one of these options.

Our GTWN2800D0WW just began doing the same thing.  Fills fine on wash cycle, only fills half way or less on rinse then begins to try to agitate.  "Power Rinse" setting didn't help, seems that causes a spin cycle after wash where otherwise it only spun after rinse.  Used to fill fine without "Power Rinse" selected.

In service 9 months, but we bought it as a test model so it's already out of warranty.  (Probably wasn't worth saving $50 for less warranty.)

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome, including suggestions on a decent washer to replace this with!

Thank you!

I decided to replace the timer anyway.  One time it seemed to fill all the way up on rinse then once it didn't.  It almost seems that the timer does not shut off while the rinse water is comming in so it times out and starts to agitate where in the origional fill the timer motor shut off until it reaches the correct fill level on the water level control.  I have not heard from the customer yet so I'm not sure if it working or she is just putting up with it.  She was filling it up with a hose from the laundry tub in the rinse cycle when it would not fill completely.  I'll call her and let you know if it has been working or not.  Tom

I have the mini-manual for the M1WS version of this washer. You must have the fabric softener switch on to get full water level in rinse cycle. With it off, power will be applied to the timer motor during rinse fill via fabric softener pressure switch bypass contacts in the timer.

I found this site on the net, I know this is  almost a year old posting
I ran across this same problem today, I read all the post, leading up to mine
Was the timer the culprit or was the fabric softener in the off position the problem
thanks, this is a great site. O0

When washer is in wash fill, the timer does not advance while filling, fill level is determined by setting of level control (pressure switch). Same applies in rinse with fabric softener switch on. With fabric softener switch off, power is applied to timer motor while filling and fill level is determined by timer, not pressure switch and this is why you get low level fill.
