A tech called me today, and said he was working on this unit. He told me it would fill completely with water almost to the top before it would lid the lid, then it would operate normally. Lid switch and control board were replaced. I asked him about the pressure hose and air trap, He said they were good. Anyone ever seen this on the VMW units? He said this one had a standard agitator, and was about 5 months old....

  Check the water level switch. Some VMW models have an integral pressure sensor on the electronic control board and some have an external pressure switch. This model washer shows it having the external switch. Do a continuity check on the wiring between control board and pressure switch. These VMW models have serious problems with loose connections and faulty wiring. Also, whenever you have problems like this, you should run the calibrate function in diagnostic mode and should also do that whenever the control board is replaced. Seems to me that these washers shouldn't do anything unless the lid is closed and it is locked but there may be a slightly different program algorithm on the Sears version.
