Door hinge on our front loader is getting tight. The hinge seems to be binding a bit, is there a lube kit or anything else to try before I spend a $100 on a new hinge. Washer is about 4 years old, wouldn't think the hinge could be bad already. Thanks in advance for any advice!
I ran into the same thing on my Maytag 3000 Series and after unsuccessfully trying to lube the hinge, I found this one pertinent post. Well, since it looked like the only option would be to spend $100.00 to get another inferiorly designed hinge, I broke out the trusty propane torch for the good ol one last try. It worked. This may not work for all hinge binding problems since there could be multiple area's that are causing the hinge to bind. Mine was binding on one of the two main hinge pins nearest to the door. I figure it was either the plastic bushings that swelled or the pot metal hinge or pin got a bur on it. Either way, I slowly heated the hinge pin housing while moving the door gently back and forth until eventually it loosened up and is working fine.
For those of you who try this, please turn on all of your common sense when working with fire. Do not melt the plastic bushings, the plastic door, or burn your house down. Burning yourself a little though is a great way to learn how to play with fire the next time. Good luck DIYers.
