Dryer Over Heating

I am a little confused on where to check but I think it may be the hi-limit? Worked on a dryer Model# LER5620KQ1 and the initial problem was no heat... Found the heating element to be broken and I replaced the element .. cleaned out the unit and the customer wanted the Start Switch replaced with a new one as he said he is sure that he heard crackling coming from it so I just said fine and replaced it as well. The customer calls me this morning and said when he turns the dryer on that it won't stop heating, he opens the door and the element stays on!!!! WHY!!! Need some help here as quick as possible.. Hi-Limit or shorted out element?? thanks in advance folks!!!

Shorted element or the motor switch is not opening up when the motor stops.

Unplug your machine. Remove back cover. Remove a wire from the element and check for shorts from terminal to chassis. I always do that when replacing one because you never know if it is shorted from the factory. Seen it.

OK .... I feel really stupid... I gave the wrong model# and brand... SORRY!!! It is a GE model# DBXR463ED2WW... The symptoms are still correct... JW, when you say check for a short, do In unplug any wire from the coil or a certain one? I did pull off the single one and tried a continuity check from that to a screw and DID NOT get continuity ... so does that mean the element is shorted from the factory? I double checked all the way around the pan and the string DOES NOT touch any metal nor does it touch itself.. PLEASE HELP, this probably should be a simple fix .. but its really got me frustrated.. Thanks Again!

That could be a stuck cent switch on the motor. Did you check that? I use zoom-oil and work it by hand till it moves easily. If one of the tiny springs has come off the cent switch then you need a new motor.

OK- how do I check that? Just pull up on it then it should relese back or what??? Sorry for all the questions....

Great Video JW and it wasa bad switch  , this particular one did not have a removeble cent switch so had to eplace the whole motor .... Thank You JW we can always count on you and AJ and his great forum..... All of us "rookies" appreciate it and all your advice and deos.......
