Whirlpool (sears) washer - new pump installed - wont go past 1st cycle

Have a sears (Whirlpool) clothes washer - 110.92573210 and just replaced the pump 3363394.
I did lay the washer on its back during the install.
Ran the 1st load - the drum kept filling up until I stopped it manually with the control.
It will only do the agitation cycle - timer does move from 10 to 2 and then stops - not more activity after that.

It was a bit difficult taking the pump off the motor shaft and putting it back on - tight fit.

? By turning it on its back - did I mess something up?

What was the original problem with the washer, leaking water pump?

I did lay the washer on its back during the install.

For future referance here is a video that shows how to change the pump.

It was a bit difficult taking the pump off the motor shaft and putting it back on - tight fit.

The old pump should have been easy to remove and the new pump easy to install onto the motor shaft.

If the old pump was leaking water then the motor shaft may have had rust buildup on it. If that was the case then the motor shaft should have been cleaned up before installing the new pump.

If a new pump is forced onto a rusty motor shaft it can crack the new pump causing the seal to leak.

Ran the 1st load - the drum kept filling up until I stopped it manually with the control.

I would check the air pressure tube that runs from that switch to the side of the tub to make sure it's not pinched someplace.

Yes = If the old pump was leaking water then the motor shaft may have had rust buildup on it.
I did clean it up before placing the new on - still was tight going on

I will do this again = I would check the air pressure tube that runs from that switch to the side of the tub to make sure it's not pinched someplace.

It seems like something is keeping it from going to the next cycle.

Should have been cleaned up more then. The new pump should have just slipped right over the motor shaft without any resistance.
Sometimes I have to use a chisel, hammer and file to clean up the motor shaft because it's so rusted up.

It seems like something is keeping it from going to the next cycle.

I would also check the timer and motor wire harness plugs. Unplug them and plug them back in to make sure they are making a good connection.

It tells the washer when the correct water level has been reached.

This did not seem to work since it keep filling and I had to stop it manually.

Sometimes the pressure hose going up to the water level switch gets pinched when reattaching the case. Their is a trough embedded in the rear panel the hose is suppose to be in alongside the harness.

Got it running.
I believe the hose may have been closed off some the 1st time. I tested the water level switch multiple time - blowing air into it and using a multimeter. It tested fine.
Also tested it with an empty and full tank. Not sure what I did right in the end - happy to have it running fine.
