SAMSUNG Refrigerator RF266AEPN - Compressor not running
« on: December 04, 2012, 11:03:53 PM »
Hello -
SAMSUNG Refrigerator RF266AEPN - Compressor not running. Only 2 years old.
The LED on the inverter board flashes once at a time which seems to indicate starting failure.
I could not find exact match for a service manual on this forum. Manual for RF266ABxx does not entirely apply as RF266AEPN has a separate inverter board while RF266ABxx does not. So I used  Fast Track RFG29PHD which looks similar from electronic point of view.
So I tried the following:
1. Activate Forced Compressor Operation, wait 2 minutes (in case of high head pressure):  Compressor did not start
2. If compressor doesn’t start, check CN75 for 2.5vdc (if not there replace Main PCB) : I found no voltage in pin 4 of CN75 - but again this is assuming the same configuration on my board.
3. If voltage is OK, remove power, disconnect CN03 (Inverter PCB) and check resistance to the windings. Aproxametly10 ohms: The resistance was good.

Assuming the same configuration, it seems I need to change the main board. However I want to make sure I am not going to have to change all the boards and the compressor (which in that case Samsung warranty should cover). Would anyone have the service manual for this refrigerator or could confirm the same configuration and conclusion applies?

Thanks,
Jack

Did you try to ohm out the compressor leads from all three terminals. If all three leads ohm out your compressor is good.

All 3 (Purple-Black, Purple-Blue, Black-Blue) read the same: 9.2 ohms.  Thanks.

Another question - Just found out the label gives a Model Number RF266AEPN and a Model Code RF266AZPN/XAA. Which one do I use to get the right main board? Thanks, Jack.

the model code number.

Thanks.
Too bad. Already ordered the board for RF266AEPN. Anyway to check if this board would also work for RF266AZPN? Could Samsung help?

Thanks.

according to the diagrams and parts breakdown, the boards are different.  I have always used the model code number, not the model number.

Had simular promblem and it was the main power board.Only 2 years old would not think compressor failure.

I got a new board. Same readings. Same problem. The compressor does not start.
The test below seems wrong for my model. My model code number is RF266AZPN/XAA.
"If compressor doesn’t start, check CN75 for 2.5vdc (if not there replace Main PCB) : I found no voltage in pin 4 of CN75 - but again this is assuming the same configuration on my board"

Should I try the Inverter PCB?

Thanks, Jack

I replaced the inverter board yesterday and it solved my problem.

Thanks to all who provided pointers along the way.  :thanks:
Still not quite happy with the reliability of those Samsung refrigerators though.

Thank you for the follow up! I tend to agree with the reliability statement you made... :D
