water fills and pumps out , but wont agitate or spin , belt good and can turn manually . Was under 14" saltwater in Sandy .

Motor green light showed code 6 at first , but then code 4 - could fuse be the problem?(cant find it) . Tried opening and closing lid 12 times to reset but didnt help . Dont really want to invest in new motor (too expensive) or transmission (too much work) .

If your seeing the green light on the motor, then the fuse is good. The fuse is on the right hand side wrapped in black tape along with several other wires. If the fuse is blown, unplug washer and replace. If it's a manual mechanical timer, turn point indicator to nine o'clock position and then plug in and immediately lift lid (at least two inches high)and close 8 times within 10 seconds. This is my procedure. Good luck. Let us know.

 Your shifter coil is probably bad, but I would check the conection at the motor.seen alot of bad conection

Buy a new machine .14 inches of salt water the motor and inverter was underwater.Time to buy new.Sorry to here that .We had 9 days no power with sandy.

Did the 9 0 clock plugin and 8x thing , but no cigar .

Found a used but good motor/inverter for 80 bucks , would go with that if sure that was the problem as washer fills and pumps , but dont want to buy and find out it is the transmission thing in center of unit that is bad . If nothing worked I'd just throw it out but it's such a tease that it
a-l-m-o-s-t works .

  I plugged and tried too soon , popping circuit breaker at first - should have dried thoroughly before trying , as later I got some functions , maybe would be working if initially tried fully dryed out .

  Appreciate all the advice guys .

  That's the mode shifter, there is no transmission. You could check the mode shifter coil winding by unplugging the 2 conductor plug at the motor and check resistance across the red and yellow wires. Should be 98 ohms.

Thanks , I knew it wasn't a transmission , just couldn't remember "mode shifter" .

Haven't got a chance to check the mode shifter resistance yet .

  With the green light on the motor blinking 4 times (which at least eliminates the inline fuse being the culprit) , and the symptoms being no agitate or spin , (but fills with water and pumps it out) , I'm thinking that the problem is either the motor is blown , the mode shifter is blown - or both .

  When I'd first turned it on (after being under 14" of salt water) , it blew the GFCI , but now fills and pumps .

  If just the motor , I'll replace it as it's not too difficult - if the mode shifter - FUHGETTABOUDID!

Any thoughts appreciated .

Under saltwater and 14 inches and all the connection on motor that were under water will be corroded or will corrode at some point .Let it go buy a new washer.And a short that happen when you plug it in.Not good.I think your looking for trouble .My opinion.

I dont disagree Dab , but the connections to the motor are tight , and if it's the motor only that's bad , and not the mode shifter , replacement of the motor may work , I dont see any other electrical parts up to the 14" mark . My concern is that the mode shifter is , or may go bad , dont want to bother replacing that , and the 4 green light pattern on the motor diagnostic may refer to the mode shifter .

But the tub is not "locked" , I can spin it by hand , and I thought I'd read that a bad mode shifter "locks" it in place .

I would try to reset at least once more. Unplug for 1 minute. Plug in and immeadely raise lid 8 times within 10 seconds. Raise appr 3 inches.

  4 flashes means mode shifter circuit failure. The mode shifter is normally engaged (de-energized/spin mode) but that doesn't lock the tub, you can still spin it by hand, there is no brake except for the motor brake which only comes into play when spin mode stops. Even if the mode shifter is bad, it would still agitate although the whole basket would be doing the agitating.

But I have no agitation or spin at all , just water fill and water pumpout ,

thus despite the code , maybe the motor only is bad and the mode shifter is not , and I get no agitation or spin because of the motor ?

  Correct, but a quick check of the mode shifter would let you know if it's bad. Should read ≈98 ohms, electrically, it's nothing but a coil of wire with integral fuse link.

Yes , I've been told that previously but haven't been able to check yet. If it doesn't read 98 ohms , is there anything else to check , or it needs to be replaced? I'll change the simple to do motor , but dont want to bother with the mode shifter as though not too complicated , too many
operations to bother changing .
