compresser noise

Hi I have a 15 year old kenmore coldspot model number 106 77977791. The compresser sounds like a bearing is going out. it still cools as of now. is this worth fixing or shold i just get a new one. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi,

I can't find anything on that model number. Are you sure it's correct?

Does your model have a fan motor near the compressor that could be making the noise or are you sure the noise is coming from the compressor?

Sorry i did put the wrong model number. it is model 106 77997791. serial number EG5117365 if that helps. Not sure about the fan. I'll have to pull it out and look but i don't think there is one. Thanks for checking.

I looked up your model and it does have a condenser fan motor, part # 4387244

The motor is mounted near the compressor. I would check to make sure it's not just a noisy fan motor first.
If it is in fact the compressor that is making the noise I would say it's not going to be worth repairing with the age of it.

Sometimes the compressor will break a suspension spring.  Then the compressor will rattle against the side of the sealed casing.  The only fix is to replace the compressor or live with the noise.
