Maytag Transmission - Replace Lube?

Hey everybody!
Am new to the site as a DIY wrench twister. First off, I want to give a big "THANKS" to John in Admin for being so responsive in getting me access to download my washer's service manual last week!

Will be getting into the parts replacements within a week but am curious, does the transmission have a grease or gear oil lube that should be changed out when servicing? As I'll be removing it anyway when replacing the other parts, thought I might as well change it then. 

Other than replacing the timer and lid switch, the unit has never had any service issues (until now - off balance, worn belts).

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

There's no need to replace the oil.  If you need replace an internal part, lay the washer on it's back.  Turn the transmission so the cover faces up.  Remove the cover.  Place a clean container under the transmission and turn it so the oil drains into the container.  Then, just re-use the oil.  The oem oil is part number 6-0560800.  I've used regular 80w90 gear oil before, with no problems.

No trans parts to be replaced, so it sounds like I don't need to mess with that chore!  Amazing how long the lube can last with all of the torque/rpms year after year!

LOL that's funny!  Apparently you've never seen my washer dance across the floor during spin cycle!

Yep, just sayin' would think after 15+ years of 6-8 loads a week, it would pick up enough metal fines from the gears, that a maintenance change would be recommended.

Glad I don't have to deal with that too.

What parts will you be replacing?

Damper pads, tub bearing, stem, balance springs around tub and both belts. Also be checking the balance ring. My parts list says it's concrete, but a tech has also said it could be filled with saline (which might have leaked out).

In 30+ years I have never replaced tub springs or the balance ring. My suggestion would be to replace the pads first. Unless the tub seal is leaking
you shouldn't need to replace it or the bearing either. Make sure the legs are not out to far and once you have the washer sitting flat on the floor secure the lock nuts.
