GE Profile Fridge - icemaker feeler arm issue

This fridge has the side to side feeler arm (paddle).

I have this issue where the icemaker was making too much ice.
There seems to be a field kit available to replace the feeler arm (paddle)....has bigger or curved paddle.

I removed mine only to see what the part # was but now not sure how to re-install...i.e. stationary position of the paddle when there is no ice.

Before I took it out I was pretty sure the paddle was to the left and tucked under the maker, maybe not all the way to the left though.....the screw was maybe too tight!!!
I put it back together but seemed to want to stick out to the right over top the middle of the tray.......no ice this time.
Re-installed yet again but this time it was in the middle position, to the right but not all the way out.....now there is ice.

If I understood how it works I could fix this in a heart beat....
1.  When the paddle is moved all the way to the left (tucked way under the maker) is this On or Off?
2.  What position should the paddle be in when there is no ice?
3.  I gather I need to swing the paddle to the proper stationary position before tightening the screw?
4.  The spring seems to want the paddle to move to the right....is this correct?
5. Safe to presume the micro switch is only left to right and not up and down also?......thought I heard some clicking but maybe not.

Paddle should be out away from ice maker, unless a full bin is holding it back.  Its sring loaded and will always try to move out. When replacing paddle there's only one way it will go on as it has a recess it fits into.

When its out to the right all the way then I cannot pull the ice tray towards me as the paddle is in the way since the back of the tray is a little higher on the right side.

If the paddle is tucked under the icemaker, something is holding it back, the spring is broken (out of place) or the icemaker is in mid cycle. Assuming the icemaker isn’t in mid cycle I think your spring didn’t get reinstalled correctly. There is a small hold in the icemaker and a small hold in the feeler arm. The spring has two small arms and one fits into each of these holes. If the spring is in place the arm should swing all the way out on its own and you cannot set or change this.

 I just now need to know which way is on or off but may have figured that to the right is on and to the left is off?

With feeler arm tucked in the icemaker “thinks” the ice bin is full so it doesn’t make ice. I still say there isn’t an adjustment the spring always pulls the arm all the way out (what you are calling to the right) The only time the arm isn’t all the way out is if the ice is holding it back (or something) or the icemaker is in mid cycle.

Yes, right now spring is in proper and paddle is out to the right but not all the way, tray is full of ice........and I do believe no ice generated since yesterday!!!!!.

I gather the paddle only needs to move to the left a little from it's stationary position to turn it off.

Think I will order the field replacement paddle anyway since its only $10.00

In case anyone needs:

The Feeler Arm (paddle) will not swing to the left to stop the ice maker.

Stock Feeler Arm rides just above the ice where it wont be pushed to the side to shut the maker off.

The paddle is curved downwards along one side to contact (slightly scoop) scoop the ice.
