With the timer set to spin and the motor running can you turn the transmission by hand?

With the washer set this way, I can manually turn the transmission pulley clockwise by hand and start the spin cycle with the tub seal in place but the inner tub not in place.  But when I stop the washer and try to start it again, it will not resume spin unless I manually start it again.  Is the brake not releasing or is the belt not tight enough to start the spin?

How is the tension on the motor? When you push it towards the transmission it should move 1 1/2 inches then float right back.

When I push the motor towards the transmission, it moves maybe 1/2 inch.

Did you at any time during the repair remove the transmission pulley?

With the front of the machine off,put timer in spin and turn on. CAREFULLY put foot (watch for moving tranny) behind the motor and pull it towards the front of the washer ( about 1-1/2 inches) if it spins the tension on the motor may be gummed up. Next would be the belts, are they reversed? ( if you removed them)

I pulled the motor towards me, and the agitator mount started spinning.  Now I haven't done this with the inner tub installed yet but I would assume the results would be the same.  Does this mean that the motor springs are bad/broken? or is it something else?

Clean them out if they don't spring right back ,also make sure there are 2 springs on the motor carriage.

I looked at the 2 springs underneath the motor carriage and they look good to me.  They aren't gummed up or broken.  It does look like there is a spot for a third spring on the right side of the motor that isn't there.  Also, the motor barely moves 1/4 inch towards the front of the machine when pulled and 1/2 inch inwards when pushed.  Is that normal? It seems to be hitting the base plate cut-out for the drive shaft.

No spring on the right side, the rollers are actually square and should glide smooth when you move the motor towards the transmission and release. If not try some silicone spray(don't get it on the belts or pulleys) and it should solve it.
