dryer runs but will not heat------checked thermal,operating stat, element, and both high limits and they all check good. posibly motor switch i was thinking but then i checked power and got a reading i never got before. at the wall plug i got 125 from nuetral to left leg and 125 from neutral to right leg but when i check across i get  0 not 240 like i expected. freaked me out so i checkedthe metr out to make sure it was working right and then plugged in unit and pulled plug out like eighth of an inch so i could check it at the cord itself----same result.. next i flipped up the consoleand checked where the cord connects onto the machines terminal block and same result-125 and 125 and zero across. any idea whats going on ? and remember it runs but just wont heat. i have had plenty where you get 125 one side, some wierd reading like 10 or19 (bleed thru voltage) and then the same wierd reading when you go across. one leg of power gone flip breaker and you have heat .this one is showing good voltage both legs seperate and absolute zero across . any help appreciated.

I think someone's been messing around in the breaker panel and crossed some wires.  Turn the dryer breaker off and check for power again.

      Sounds like a faulty wired breaker box.  I've actually had this before.   When I encountered it,  I found out someone had taken 2 seperate 30 amp breakers and put the two sides of the "220" volt lines into them.   The problem - both are on the same phase side.   So it's not 220,   it's 2 seperate 125 volt legs of the same phase.   A 220-240 volt dual 30 amp breaker grabs both sides of the bus,   thus giving 220 volt 2 phase.    Either that,  or something happened in the transformer on the supply side.   I would call an electrician if you can't figure it out.

yes, sounds like a Breaker / Box problem.
Is this in the main (two rows) Breaker panel, or a "secondary" Breaker box ?
Should be using a "double breaker"
IF (2) single Breakers are used,
they should be on the same side of the Breaker panel.
That is if the Breaker panel is wired corectly and the house does have 220v to it.
Some houses were never wired for 220v

I recently had a similar problem. The wife informed me the receptacle for the dryer caught fire. I had this receptacle on a heavy extension cord so that I can drag it outside and check dryers. I went and bought a brand new one and connected it up. 3 different dryers would not run even though the thing had 240 coming out of the 2 hot prongs. When I check voltage from ground to each prong I could not get but 50 from one side. So I swapped the hot wires and that fixed it. Crazy ain't it?
