Elite Oasis Washer Door Lock Question

I have replaced that part already. What I have not been able to find out is how does the machine know that the lid is or is not closed. I have taken the old door lock mechanism apart and could not see any way for it to know if the door is closed or not. I could see how it determines if the latch is extended into to the locked position or not. I can also see how it knows it is not able to lock because is blocking the lock tab but when it comes to determining the door position itself i can't see anything.

there is a mgnet in the lid. i would put this unit in the diagnostic mode. you may have a bad connection or a faulty control board.
