Amana ABL1927FES Refrigerator / pan drain / service manual

Hello folks:

I have an Amana (Maytag) refrigerator with a bottom mount freezer (pull out drawer).  I have a bad odor coming from the unit and after removing the back cover found its pan drain containing a dried up black residue which I believe to be the source of the odor.  The pan drain cannot be cleaned easily and it has cracks in it.  I wish to remove and replace it but I find that it is a difficult project as the pan drain will not come out easily as the fan assembly blocks its removal.  The fan assembly also seems difficult to remove. 

I wonder if someone knows specifically how to remove the fan assembly and the pan drain so I can remove and replace it (which I believe is manufacturer part #12477402 made by WHIRLPOOL).

Also, I would like to know if someone knows how to acquire a free service manual download for this appliance.

When I enter your model number in the Maytag database it shows this service manual for your model, even though we don't have your model listed for it on our site.

Download it, look it over and let us know if that helps.

I'm running behind on service calls right now so I have not had time to look through it myself.

The manual was helpful    .  Page 36 of the manual indicates that you must raise the rear of the fridge 4 inches, lower the base pan, lift condenser fan shroud up and out of the way, and remove the drain pan.  This made sense as it was not removable without raising the rear of the fridge.  Now I feel confident to order the new drain pan and perform the job.  Again, I thank you for the manual.

Finally, I have another fridge.  I would like a manual for it as well while I am getting the none for the Amana.  It is similar to the other fridge, in that it is a bottom mount pull out drawer freezer except that it has a right hand fridge door instead of a left hand one.  It is a Whirlpool model GB9SHDXPS02.  Can you check for me whether the manual I downloaded from your post is the same manual I would use for this model?  Or would I need a different manual?  Thank you.

Glad you found the service manual helpful. 

The only thing I can come up with for the GB9SHDXPS02 is the tech sheet.
I have attached a copy of the tech sheet to this topic for you. Maybe you will find it helpful.

did this same job last week unplug unit 4x4 block pushed to front right edge or left if looking from back  removed 2 trox head screws holding bottom plate on unplugged motor droped pan and condenser motor out look at how motor was mounted in the pan installed motor in new pan replaced bottom plate plugin motor plug in unit wait to see motor come on and your done funny  about that pan same black crud and i belive heat may have made  pan brittle it just fell apart in my hand
