I think they sent me a bad board.

The manual here says to refer to the tech sheet for troubleshooting the adc.

This is the PART in question.

Bad cooling defrost problems, intermittent.  The old board acting funny, the new board don't seem to want to do anything at all.

The service manual sends you to the tech sheet.  The tech sheet is not in the fridge.

(Why aren't the tech sheets included in the manuals as appendices?)

Any help is appreciated. Heading back over now.

I went through it all again, and came up with an intermittent problem with the capacitor.  This doesn't explain the defrost problem, which I fixed with the new ADC board, but it explains why the thing didn't start again with the new board.

I tested the capacitor, and got 14.5 mfd's for a 15 mfd capacitor.  Sometimes.  Sometimes nothing.  I swapped it for a 15 mfd capacitor that tested 15.7 always.

We'll order him a new one tomorrow with my regular order.

I'd think that 14.5 would do it, but not the intermittent problem.  Hearing the compressor groaning as it tries to start of the  run (only) wiring is kinda sad.

I wish I knew a lot more about boards.

That is something I need to buckle down on.

Anybody got training info for them?  Even basic "for dummies" stuff would be appreciated.

I don,t think a capacitor is going to help you with a compressor starting problem.Sounds like you need a relay that comes with the capacitor.If i am understanding you forum right.Part #67005560 relay and capacitor.

You can get the Starting Device #67005560 Or you can get just the Capacitor.

The relay checks out according to the service manual.  The capacitor did not.  I put in a used one of the same specs, and it started up fine.

I'm still relatively inexperienced with everything, but it seems that the capacitor in this set up gives temporary voltage to the start wiring, while constant goes to the run wiring.  If the thing is trying to start off of one winding only, I'd expect to hear it until the overload clicks off.  That's what I got, and swapping out the capacitors fixed that.

I'm just letting it run to see if it goes through its defrost cycle fine and that it maintains a good temp.  If not, the customer wants to condemn the machine (spare fridge), so we'll avoid the cost of the capacitor.

So far, so good.  Good temp, no frost.  If all is ok tomorrow, we'll get the capacitor, and close the ticket.

It's highly unlikely that the capacitor will cause the compressor to not start.  That's a run capacitor.  The compressor will run without the capacitor, but at a higher wattage. Next time you see a compressor with a run capacitor, disconnect it and compare amperage readings with and without the cap.

Ok.  That's two to one.  Happy to defer to your judgement.

But it seemed to fix itself after I swapped capacitors.  Of course, I rechecked everything, so it could have been a loose connection.

What do you think it could have been?

I'm interested to know.  After all, working for myself, while it provides on the job training, my boss ain't the best instructor!

Sorry AJ.I first look up model on marcone web site and sometimes if your lucky there is a wiring diagram.And there was.Then went to Sears because idid not no if Anderson had a model look up.But it was my brain somehow said your diagram was different then marcone and sears . But i no now it was not.I was wrong.May need glasses.Sorry.

Well,  the capacitor did NOT fix it.

Seems like it had an intermittent compressor problem.

I checked out the compressor when I started.  The windings were ok, no shorts, no grounds, everything added up.

Sometimes the compressor would come right on.  a few times it would groan a bit. and every once in a while it would howl and trip the overload.

I got a new relay and it did not change a thing.

I got a hard start on it, and just ran the compressor direct.  same intermittent problem.  sometimes works (and cools) some times complains, and sometimes howls and trips off.

Dab? Tgoods?  Is there a physical pressure/freon/dryer/oil problem that would cause this on/off problem?  The system has not been opened,  and it began cooling noticeably when it did run.

Sounds like a compressor failure to me.  Bet it's a Tecumseh, isn't it?

Its made in brasil.  I don't know what brand.

I told the guy we were at the end with his fridge, 'cause though I could get it running, it wouldn't stay that way.

I'm just curious to know what the failure is.  Bad valve? Sticking something-or-other?

If a compressor is running and you shut it off, the pressure will need to equalize before it will restart.
