Whirlpool Gold Gas Dryer stops running prematurely (GGW9868KQ0)

For whatever reason, the dryer frequently does not run for the full cycle and I come downstairs to find it stopped. No error codes on the screen. The dryer is still heating up, just verified that.

Does anybody have a service manual for this dryer so that I can try to debug this issue? Or can someone give me info on how to put this into a diagnostic mode where it can verify the health of different switches and sensors on the unit? I'm not sure if it's a moisture sensor that's gone or going but I can't fine any service manuals to let me attack the problem. I'm an engineer and it's frustrating to not have the documentation to try and fix this myself.

Here is a copy of the tech sheet. Take a look at it and see if it helps.

Be sure to check the dryer vent and the blower housing for lint build up.

Oh, this looks like exactly what I'd need...except this is the Spanish version. No hablo espanole :-). Any chance you could post up the English version? Thanks so much! Just out of curiosity, where do you get access to things like this?

If you have wax buildup on the sensor strips they won't detect moisture and the machine will think them clothes is dry. Clean the sensor strips with windex or 409 and retry.

much appreciated tgoods. I went through a bunch of the diagnostics tests. All of the buttons, door sensor and moisture sensor are all functioning properly. When the cycle stops pre-maturely it appears to be throwing an E1 error which is "thermistor open" per the tech sheet.

I was able to run a timed drying cycle on medium heat after vacuuming out a lot of lint buildup around the blower and heating unit and it actually ran the full 45 minute cycle without stopping. Seems like the thermistor is the most logical culprit, perhaps its starting to go intermittent? Right now my plan was to buy a new thermistor and possibily a high limit thermostat to replace them both. Thoughts?

Yes, replace the thermistor.  They can show good with a meter but still be bad.

Nice video JWWebster, but I don't understand why they show taking half the dryer apart to replace the thermister. I took off the bottom front panel and two bolts and got to mine fine.

So, new thermister in and no E1 error with the dryer stopping.

HOWEVER, new problem and symptom. My girlfriend said the dryer isn't heating up. I set it up for a fixed time cycle, took off the front cover to watch the burner and let things rip. The first ignition went fine and the dryer heated up fine. It then cycled off for a time and started into a second ignition cycle. The glow plug / igniter lit up for ignition, I heard a click (relay/gas coil?) and then no ignition. This repeated with the element glowing hot, a click but then no ignition.

Ideas as to exactly which piece is the issue?

Sounds like a classic failure of the gas coils. They work when cold but quit when they warm up a little bit.

Coils replaced and all appears to be working well! Thanks so much to everyone for the help and parts links. The appliancepartspros part was $15 and the partsselect.com parts were $75...for the same thing! Crazy.
