Admiral Washer won't spin
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:27:50 PM »
I have an Admiral washing machine that will drain but won't spin. The belt is in good shape and is turning (I can tilt the washer back and see that the belt is turning and everything appears to be fine below). However, the agitator is not spinning inside the drum. Any ideas? Thanks!

If yours is a single belt Maytag washer the problemer is gonna most likely be the thrust bearing kit. This washer has a main pulley that is made outta plastic. The motor goes in one direction for wash (tub is locked down) and another direction to spin and discharge the water. Purty simple. So what goes wrong? The main drive pulley has a cam riser. It raises the brake and allows for spin. If it wears out, it don't release the brake and it pumps out but does not spin.

Thanks for your response! This is an Admiral LNC6762A71. How much money would we be looking at to replace the thrust bearing kit?

As a rookie repairman, how difficult would it be to replace this on my own?  Thanks!

Easy, simply tip the washer back. Remove the belt and the c-clip that holds the pulley on.
The new pulley/thrust bearing kit includes instructions. If you have not done so already click on the photo or part number I posted above to see current price. It also shows the instruction sheet that comes with the parts.
Hope you find our website helpful.

When you put the new part on it must release the brake for spin but lock the tub for wash. You put too many washers and the tub will move during wash and knot the clothes all to hell. If you do not put enough washers the brake will not release and you will have what you have now. The kit comes with thin and thick washers, pay attention to the way they come off and put em back the same with the new pulley. Do not be discouraged if your first attempt does not work.
Getting the clip back on with the correct amount of washers id pretty tough for me.
