The problem is that the door gasket got all torn up and I noticed a drip on the bottom left corner. Easy fix, I think, get a new door gasket (part # 8193942), which I did.

It seemed the door gasket was too long and I couldn't close the door - it kept popping open. So i cut off the excess gasket, so only an inch or so extends along the left and right on the lower part of the tub. Now it leaks even worse.

Did I make a mistake? Should the 'tails' of the gasket be tucked inside the door? If they hang out in the tub they extend about 5"-6" and there doesn't seem to be a way to secure them and they seems to get in the way of the door and I can't close it. Before purchase another door gasket, what should I do?

Did you receive an intstruction sheet with the part? I would not think that you would cut any off.

Those gaskets stretch very easily. If you start at the top and work your way down you will end up with to much gasket.

I just had the same problem where the door kept popping open after replacing the door gasket.  Is this a stainless steel model?  Mine was and when I installed  the gasket without streathing it I has less then 1" left over on each side at the bottom corners.  I turned the gasket around and it closed fine without popping open.  Turns out I installed it backwards.  The bevel faces the outside of the tub.  Try this, hope it works.  Good luck, Tom

I think I may have misled you about turning the gasket around.  I was a another service call for a unrelated problem and while there I noticed my customer had a Kitchen Aid stainless steel dishwasher.  So I opened the door and checked the gasket.  I looks like the flange part is facing the inside of the dishwasher and not the cabinet edge.  No one ever changed this one so it is installed correctly.  Check yours out and see if it is installed correctly.  Good Luck!
