The kit comes with washers of various thicknesses. Do not be discouraged if the first time you get it back together it does not work. It is hard to get the correct order right. The idea is to release the tub for spin but lock down the tub for wash. Too many washers and the tub will move during wash and knot the clothes all to hell and back. Too few washers and the brake will not release, exactly what you have now.
Note: It is dang near impossible to install the correct amount of washers and the clip to hold it all into place unless you are the Hulk in the Green mode. I use a cheater to help me install the c clip with ease. A claw hammer is too big to do the job. I use a claw tool which is a nail puller that will fit between the spokes and allow you to put some leverage on the brake spring so that you can secure the c clip onto the shaft. Good luck. One day I hope I will get the opportunity to install one and make a nice video of just how it is done
