Protecting Your Dishwasher Motor

If you own a dishwasher manufactured by Whirlpool (Whirpool, Kenmore, Kitchen Aid) that has a horizontal mounted motor, make sure you replace the motor seal (pn #8193510) every 3-4 years. The reason is these horizontal motors were manufactured using a type of motor seal that was designed to last about 4 years under normal use. Over time, the seal will wear out and water will leak into the motor bearing causing the bearing to rust and be very noisy. Eventually, the bearing will freezes up and the motor will stop working all together.

To get your dishwasher working again if this happened, you must replace the motor with a new one which can cost you over $100 just in the cost of the motor.

There are several places online that you can find the seal kit from. The cheapest place is on Ebay which I have seen this kit going from $7.50 to $25.
