Broiler not working, oven light stays on

I've been doing some work on my VGIC485 Viking stove to fix a few problems.  I replaced the spark module to fix burners that weren't lighting. The broiler also didn't work. I replaced the broiler ignitor.

I have 2 problems:  1) The broiler still isn't working. The ignitor glows, but the gas never turns on.  I tried it a few times, and I did see flame come on for a second, but it didn't stay on  and 2) the oven temp light never seems to turn off.  I put a thermometer in there, set it for 350 and let it run 20 minutes. The thermometer read around 350, but the red light never shut off.

I hadn't used the oven in months (summer, use the grill outside), so I am not sure if the oven issue happened with the changes I made or not.

Even though the igniter lights the flame fer a sec it is not sending back confirmation to the oven control of ignition. Take some sand cloth and clean the igniter up real good and you will see what I mean. I was trying to figure out the same thang on a direct spark stove and figured it out. The ignition uses a kanthal type spark system from robertshaw. It is similar to that used on hvac furnaces. The igniter lights the pilot and then becomes a thermocouple:

The igniter is brand new on the broiler. That is why I am baffled. 

I can smell gas, so the valve is opening.
