whirlpool gas dryer won't fire(except for first time)

Customer says it gets a little warm but that's it. She says she usually heard the "roar" and when she did not hear that she knew there was something not lighting.

I went out and looked thru the viewport, and the glow plug glows, then the unit fired, looks like low flame, then ran for about 30 seconds and shut off. After that, the glow plug would glow, but the burner would not come back on. I also heard no clicking in the gas valve at all.


unit is not clogged with lint and it's only about 6 feet of pipe to the outside and I checked it and it's clear.

Seems like the solenoids, but I was extremely paranoid about pulling the front off the machine. On another machine I tried that and the drum kind fell out.... I just watched the video on replacing the solenoids and it looks pretty simple, taking the top off first then the front.

 People used to bring in the gas assembly by itself and I could verify by bench testing it. I basically connected the gas to it applied power to the assembly and would touch the 2 wires together to make the ignitor come on. I in effect would be the flame sensor. I would hold the 2 wires together (making sure I didn't get bit) wait a minute or so for the ignitor to get hot and separate the wires. The gas should come on. Note: Just powering up the assembly does not allow the coils to work because the ignitor in the circuit is pulling to many amps. It must be dropped out of the equation so that the energy can open the valve.

Recently had one that was loosing power to coil.  I wiggled the temp select switch and heard coil click. You my have a faulty temp select switch.

The gas valve solenoids are a common part that I stock on my truck and use often.
I would try replacing the gas valve solenoid, part # 279834

Replaced the coils and everything works.....yeah!

Seems like one of my major issues with some of these appliances is getting them apart to work on... The video was extremely helpful.
