Whirlpool washer just stopped working
« on: April 26, 2008, 03:05:16 PM »
My waher just stopped working during the rinse cycle. No matter where I turn the timer to I get nothing. I think it is the timer but want to make sure before I buy a new one.

Model Number: LTE5243DQ0 icon

Your lid switch is probably malfunctioning.

open the lid to the washer and look for a strike mounted on the lid. This strike goes down into a hole that pushes against said switch and lets the washer do its thang. A DIYer will find it easier to replace the switch by NOT removing the case but the smart homeowner will unbuckle the case instead of cutting wires. Your lid switch by the way has 3 wires. a green grounding wire and 2 other wires. These 2 other wires can be jumped out(for testing ) just to see if indeed that is the problem.

I have been trying to get the top off of the washer to access the lid switch but have not figured out how to get it to come lose. This is a washer dryer combo

yeah the top don't come off. The case does. In the case of a stack model you only need to reveal the S clips mounted on the back by remove the splashplate located between the upper drying unit and the lower washing unit. To make maintenance simple on this here model you are allowed to remove the case. Consult the above downloadable manual provided by our fearless leader Mr AJ PS I ain't read the manual so I am going by past experience with stack models.

On the washer/dryer combo stacker unit he has just the top will come off.

They are a little different then the stand alone direct drive cabinet you show in your diagram there.

Wow ,must be a newer design than my old increpid retired rearend has seen. Tell us how that top comes off Kimosabe. Got Pictures? The reason I ask is this old lame PC of mine cannot download anythang. It never has and never will. I cannot read any manuals or download any info so I have to just go by your explanation simply put. If you can just give it out in tech talk I will translate it into laymans terms my friend so go ahead and give it your best shot.

Once you release the top panel from those clips, it will pull forward slightly. Then you lift the front of it up a couple of inches so you can disconnect the door switch harness connector, which will be right in front of you as you lift the top panel up. Once this is disconnected, replacing the lid switch can be performed on the top panel while it is out of the machine. This is somewhat easier than removing the whole cabinet as with freestanding models.

Thanks for all the help. I took the top off and checked the lid swith with an ohm meter and it is working fine I guess it must be the timer.

wow that top of the washer part kinda does like some of these newer dryers. Yes AJ the pic you posted I clicked on and it gets large enogh to view. That is cool. If it is your timer with a burnt contact then the washer should do in other cycles.
