dryer not running
« on: July 15, 2012, 01:01:18 PM »
I have a Kenmore dryer that when I set in any cycle it will run as long as I hold the push to start switch. And as soon as I let go of the push to start switch it will shut off is it the push to start switch or the motor the door switch is fine. Thanks

Is the drum turning? Most times the belt is broken and the idler switch won't allow the run winding to energize. It will start but not run.

Last halloween I worked on one of these. The fuse was blown and it would not run at all. In my pictorial I show the broken belt switch location the 20th pic down with a yellow wire attached to it:

Might be the power relay on your model is bad. Looks like to flip up the controls you back out the screws in the rear of each endcap on the control panel then rotate up the control.

Sounds like a bad motor to me.
Your model dryer uses motor part # 279787

The Even heat control board can cause this .Board in control panel. One thing on diagnosing this is there should be 48vdc at motor relay in control panel witch is the relay with two pink wires on it.when you push the start button you should get 48vdc.If you do get 48vdc suspect the motor relay. Also you could have a bad thermistor in the bottom panel.Thermistor should read about 10 thousand Ohm,s.I would check thermistor first.

Ya that the motor relay JW has a nice video of.But it could be motor,or relay, or i had  a couple with a bad thermistor.Or control board also.Good luck.

yes, sounds like a bad Motor Relay ...
(OR the Controller is bad)
Does the Dryer heat OK ? (when you hold the Start Button)
If there's 48v DC across the Motor Relay (smaller) Terminals,
then the Relay is bad.
You could try swaping the Motor Relay with the Heater Relay to see if the Motor will stay running
(Heater may not work then)
