LG fridge bottom freezer not freezing

Hello all. I have a bottom freezer LG LRBN20512WW. The fridge works fine but the freezer is not getting cold. It's cool, but doesn't get cold enough to make ice. Here is the story so far:

A repairman came out and pulled the cover inside the back wall of the freezer. We found the coils had frost on the upper right hand corner but not on the whole thing. He thought it was a bad fan so he removed the fan and took it with him to find another one. Overnight, the freezer began working but the fridge now stopped. After installing a new fan the following day, we regained the fridge, but once again lost the freezer.

He returned and charged the system with R134. Still not freezing.

Any ideas what to check next?

You may possibly have a sealed system failure that could invove a loss of freon, but if your frig is still under warranty and your repair guy is unauthorized he may have voided your warranty by entering the system.

We bought it second hand so I don't have any warranty.  We filled it with R134 and it still is not freezing.  It may indeed have a leak as well, but for now it's full.

What would cause the fridge to work fine, but not the freezer?

Sounds like your repairman is doing a lot of guessing.

It sounds like you have a heavily restricted cap tube or a leaking compressor.  When the fan motor is taken out of the unit, the refrigerant can freeze easier because there is no air circulation but when the fan is replaced, the warm air takes away the refrigerant's ability to cool because there isn't enough volume of flow to maintain temperature.  Did your tech check the pressures on the high side while the unit is running?  What were the tech's findings?
