Ice maker stopped working abruptly

Hello,

I have a Whirlpool GSF26C4EXB00 refrigerator.  The ice maker recently stopped filling.  I empty the ice regularly because I fill a small cooler with all the ice in the container about once a week, and earlier this week I noticed there was no ice.  I usually use the "fast ice" function to refill the ice.

I don't think it has anything to do with the water line because the water dispenser works fine.  Please let me know what other information I need to provide; I don't know if I've left anything out.  The fridge is barely out of warranty; we bought it in December 2010, so it's less than two years old.

I don't think it has anything to do with the water line because the water dispenser works fine.

The refrigerator uses a dual water valve, so just because the dispenser works the valve still may not be letting water go to the ice maker.


Something I see often is the water line that goes to the ice maker will freeze shut.


Your ice maker is not getting any water to it, right?
Or is there ice cubes in it, but it just don't cycle to dump them out?

I think you're right, there is no water going to the ice maker, but I'm not 100% sure what you mean by ice cubes in it.  There is nothing in the hopper, and if I look down the chute, it's empty.  I don't know a thing about refrigerators, though, so I might be looking in the wrong place.

What do I do if the line is frozen?  Would using "fast ice" too much cause it to freeze?  Like I said before, we empty the entire hopper pretty regularly, so we use the fast ice function a lot.

I think you're right, there is no water going to the ice maker, but I'm not 100% sure what you mean by ice cubes in it.

Just ment if you feel inside the ice maker mold is there any ice or water in the tray?

What do I do if the line is frozen?

Thaw it out with a hair dryer. You could turn the water off to the refrigerator and disconnect the water line from the water valve that goes to the ice maker and see if you can blow air through it. If you can blow air through it then it's open and not frozen shut.

Sorry for the delayed response, and thanks again for your help.

Just ment if you feel inside the ice maker mold is there any ice or water in the tray?

I checked out the diagrams you sent me...so I just pull off the cover and should be able to look at the ice maker?  I can check that out in the next day or two.  I'll let you know what I come up with.
