Can you give us a little more detail on just what's going on with your washer?
When you say...
It filled and stopped. It sounds like the timer is still running, as it "hums" for a few seconds and then clicks as though it's trying to do something.
Do you hear the main motor at the bottom of the washer humming or just the timer?

In 25 years I have only come across 3 or 4 bad capacitors on this type of washer. You would need a special meter to check the capacitor.
A far more common problem would be the lid switch, part # 3949247
The lid switch will kill power to the motor during the drain and spin cycle. Also sometimes during the wash cycle depending on the model of the washer.
I'm not sure on your model if the lid switch stops the wash cycle or not.
If you open and close the lid can you hear the lid switch clicking on and off?
