Whirlpool washer does not agitate, spin or drain!
« on: July 01, 2012, 06:47:51 PM »
We scooped all the water out and reset it to run through a short cycle. It filled and stopped. It sounds like the timer is still running, as it "hums" for a few seconds and then clicks as though it's trying to do something. I have not check or tested anything yet!

Thank you for any help!

Nope, sorry.
Is this a top load washer or a front load washer?

Did you look under the washer lid or inside the door if it's a front load washer.

Nope, you need to find a tag that list the model and serial number on it.

If it's a top load washer open the lid and look along the hinged edge.
Sometimes the tag will get caked over with laundry soap so it's hard to see.

I wonder if it's the motor you hear humming and clicking out on the overload.
If so you may have something stuck in the drain pump.

Your model uses Drain Pump Part # 3363394

Yes, a lot of the times you can simply clean them out.
I posted the video above so you could see how to remove the pump and check it.

Let us know what you find.

Can you give us a little more detail on just what's going on with your washer?

When you say...
It filled and stopped. It sounds like the timer is still running, as it "hums" for a few seconds and then clicks as though it's trying to do something.

Do you hear the main motor at the bottom of the washer humming or just the timer?

Here is the capacitor JW is talking about, part # 8572717

In 25 years I have only come across 3 or 4 bad capacitors on this type of washer. You would need a special meter to check the capacitor.

A far more common problem would be the lid switch, part # 3949247

The lid switch will kill power to the motor during the drain and spin cycle. Also sometimes during the wash cycle depending on the model of the washer.
I'm not sure on your model if the lid switch stops the wash cycle or not.

If you open and close the lid can you hear the lid switch clicking on and off?

I'm pretty sure I just hear the timer, and not the motor. It sounds as though it's trying to change cycles. but after the basin fills with water nothing happens. I applied pressure with a screw driver to the lid swith. It "clicks" but nothing happens. The switch broke a few months ago, it came apart, i super glued it back together and it has worked fine for quite sometime. I have not tested the switch yet. I thought i saw a test on another post.

Thank You!
