Maytag Gas Dryer won't stay lit

I'm troubleshooting my Maytag gas dryer (model  MDG7600AWW) because the gas goes out after about 15-20 seconds. The reason it goes off is because the Hi-Limit thermostat is opening up. I know this because I loose the 120vac on the output side at the same time the flame goes out. I also shorted across the Hi-Limit device for a few minutes and the flame did not turn off. Obviously, I won't run the dryer this way. I tested the thermostat using a hot plate and thermocouple to read the temperature and the device opened up at about 210*F (it's a 220*F device) which tells me it's okay.I verified that there is no clog in the channel from the burner to the dryer and from the blower to the outside vent (I'm 100% certain they are both clear). I also verified that the blower is working.

It sure seems like the reason is the dryer getting too hot but I don't know what else to check. Please help.

Sounds like the gas coils are opening up, 15 to 20 sec. , hi limit should not trip until 250 degrees.

I would check the vent tube connected to the back of the dryer....if it is clogged you won't get good air flow through the machine which will make the flame lazy (no force to it) and point towards the hi limit causing it to trip.  Disconnect the tubing and see what happens.

Sounds like an air flow problem if you bypassed the limit and it works. If you check the seals and gasket around the blower area to make sure it is sealing(no kinks and seal is over the blower inlet)

After you shorted out the limit how long did the flame stay on?

I agree with Theoldstoveguy, I think it's an air flow problem as well. Another thing to check is the blower wheel. I've seen the inside of the hub "rounded out" so it doesn't grip the motor shaft.

Thanks for all the responses but none seem to make sense to me because...
I've checked for clogged lines and I know they are not. I also get plenty of flow out of the vent so I know the blower motor is working (nor do I hear any noise like it's not seated right). And I had the hose from from dryer to the outside disconnected so it's not in play.
If it's the coils dropping out why does the gas flame stay on when I short across the Hi-Limit switch? I did this for about 2 minutes.
I'm not sure what the flame should look like but it's not in contact with the Hi-Limit switch.

I know it's got to be something simple but...

As I posted before check the drum seals and the blower seal, it is an air flow problem. It can draw air from between the blower area or drum felt seals and still have good air flow out the back.

It's fixed. I don't understand the logic but replacing the relay coils fixed the problem. I bought the kit and replaced both so I don't know which one was the problem.
