Kenmore (GE) Elite Double Oven 911 4901 3009 Error Code

Hi,

We have a new to us oven. It was purchased years ago for kitchen remodel that didn't happen and we bought it off Craigslist. It had never been installed until it got to our house--but it clearly is not under warranty. We used the oven for two days with it hardwired into the box--just sitting on a table in front of the cabinet. Just to test it--before we cut up the cabinets. Worked great. Cut up cabinets. Now getting F1 code. The only way to get the oven to not beep and flash FI is kill the circuit breaker. BUT...if you kill it and then turn it back on--and dash to the kitchen and turn the oven on...it works just fine. It cooked pizza and roasted cauliflower last night--running flat out for 1.5 hours--with no codes. As soon as we turned it off, however, it was back to FI within minutes.

This is what we've done:
1) re-seated the ribbon cable--it made it 6 hours and then F1'd again
2)totally disconnected the ribbon cable--and then turned it back on--it F)'d within 2 minutes

It's clearly EITHER the ERC or the ribbon-cable connection.

Any thoughts?

Are you sure that's the correct model number?

Hi Elizabeth: If you look at the contacts on the Ribbon cable, are they Dirty / Tarnished ? If they are you can clean them up by gently rubbing them with a standard pencil eraser, i've found this problem several times on different appliances & it could be a simple fix for you. If the oven was working ok before fitting into the cabinet then it's more likely the fault is due to disturbed connections than a faulty control board. Check all cables / connections are secure first.

Sorry. I meant to say above that it F0'd within a minute with the ribbon cable totally disconnected--but the power turned on.

The original error was F1.

I would try cleaning the ribbon cable first as Specialist suggested.

If that did not do the trick I would replace the touchpad. Not a cheap part.

Hi Elizabeth: I have'nt got a service manual for this appliance, so can only give you general fault finding ideas.  If the ribbon cable your talking about goes to plugs at both ends, you need to clean both ends of the ribbon.
Please let us know how you get on. Don't forget: Power off first.

The other end appears to be more or less permanently connected to the touchpad--which makes sense to me given my dishwasher.....we have to buy a new touchpad every single time the ribbon cable needs to be replaced...

If you get F0, F1, F6, F7, these are all related to the keypad circuit. If any of these codes occur with the keypad disconnected, then the problem is in the control board.
