How old is my appliance?

How old is my Maytag washer? How old is my Frigidaire dryer? How old is my GE refrigerator?

These are questions I hear over and over. Often times I will be the one asking the customer how old there appliance is.

Many times the customer thinks they know how old it is, but they really have no idea because it’s easy to lose track of time.

LG Washer Disassembly

LG Washer Disassembly

1. Remove two screws on the back of the top plate.

2. Pull the top plate backward and lift, as shown.

3. Remove the detergent drawer.

4. Remove two screws behind the detergent drawer.

5. Disconnect the connector for the Display PWB.

6. Remove one screw from the corner of the control panel.

7. Lift the top away from the support rail and pull the control panel up and away to remove.

8. Remove eight screws to separate the control panel and PWB.

9. Reassembly is the reverse of these steps.

LG Washer Motor/Hall Effect Sensor

Hall Sensor

The Hall Effect sensor is easily removed and replaced.

You’ll have to remove the rotor and stator to access the sensor.

When replacing the rotor, you’ll probably need a helper to hold the drum in place when you push the rotor onto the shaft.

Otherwise, the drum may move forward enough to make replacing the bolt difficult.

The helper can also hold the drum from turning while you tighten the bolt.

22002922 Maytag Washer Spring Tool

This is the tool used to remove the tube/base springs from some maytag top load washer.

This tools is not necessary to remove the springs, but it sure makes the job a lot easier.

I have found it a lot harder to get the springs back on without this tool then it is to get them off.

If you don’t have this tool available to you here is a little trick I learned.

Once you have one spring off you can use that spring to aid you in the removal and installation of the other springs.

Simply place the hook of the spring you removed into the hook of the spring you want to install or remove and pull up.
