Refrigerator Not Cooling & Makes Clicking Sound

By

Compressor Start Relay

Your refrigerator has been running fine for years, but today it stopped cooling and you notice a clicking sounds coming from it every few seconds.

The clicking sound you are hearing is the compressor start relay trying to start the compressor.

The compressor start relay is located on the side of the compressor. In this photo the start relay is the white box with the two wires running to it.

The start relay on your compressor maybe white or black, but in either case it will be mounted to the side of the compressor.

To replace the start relay you simply have to pull the old one off the side of the compressor and unplug the two wires. Some start relay are held in place with a wire clip or plastic wire tie.

Were you able to repair your refrigerator with a new start relay?
