Question: Why will the bottom half of the agitator move a little but not the top?

Answer: Because the agitator dogs (part# 80040) are bad and need to be replaced.

Most all top load washers manufactured by Whirlpool have a two piece agitator. This includes top load washer with the names Sears/Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, and now Maytag.

If the bottom half of agitator will move a little but not the top don’t worry, this is a cheap and easy repair that you can do yourself with a little help from us.
