Sub-Zero fresh food compartment uses a cycle defrost to keep the evaporator free of frost. A cycle defrost just turns off the compressor and lets the warmth of the refrigerator defrost the evaporator.  When the thermostat reaches the lower limit it turns off the compressor with the compressor turned off the evaporator will defrost as the frost melts off the evaporator.  Water drops down off the evaporator into a trough. the trough is angled to the center where there is a drain hose.  This drain hose runs under the bottom of the fresh food and out the back then under the freezer on to a drain pan where the water sits to slowly evaporate into the air.
The problem starts with water in the drain hose becomes frozen . With just a cycle defrost the drain hose never thaws plugging the drain hose and the drain trough is over filled with water this water spills over the drain trough and into the floor of the fresh food compartment.  Sub-Zero has a fix for this problem a drain heater kit PN#753857. This drain kit includes a cable heater and a wire harness. the wire harness connects into the fan motor. As the fan is powered so is the drain heater keeping the drain clear of ice.
