Bosch Gasket clamp ToolPA191275

Bosch and LG have door gasket clamps that are very hard to spread enough to get them on without pulling the the gasket off the outer tub or the washer front. Door gasket pliers will work wonders for the full time appliance technician but at $80 plus shipping . But for the DIYer it may be out of the reach for a one time repair…three other methods that I have tried that work well.

A. Shark clamp … with a mod to the head I used a water line clamp to hold a 2″ 10 torx bit bolted to the head
1ea Shark clamp $13.99
2ea 2″ 10 torx bit bolted $2.49
2ea 1/4 bolt and nut .49
2ea water line clamp .79

B. 6″ wood clamp….predrill holes in the head 1/8 drill. Then hammer 2 10p nails hammered into the head .. then grind off the nail heads
1ea 6″ wood clamp $15.99
2 10p nail

C. Head light spring hooks – Use two head light spring clamps .. You may need a helper or two .. put one on each side of the washer have them pull apart the spring as you slide it around the clamp around the gasket.
2ea Head light spring hooks $2.99 ea

D. Zip ties…. With a extra long 11″ zip ties, Use 3 to 4 tied together looped around washer support on one side the other around one side of the spring clamp. The other side of the clamp spring loop a zip tie around it … pull on this tie to spread the clamp.

I may be easier to use the correct tool but there are time when you have to be creative to get the job done….
